It is the peeled fresh or dried Rhizome of Zingiber officinale (family Zingiberaceae), it is native to southern Asia, cultivated in almost tropical and sub-tropical areas, for food spices, medicinal and cosmetic purposes. It is the dried leaves and flowers of Thymus vulgaris, Thymus zygis (family: Lamiaceae) or both species, it is native to the Mediterranean region, and cultivated throughout the world for food, medical and cosmetic purposes. Thyme dried leaves contain essential oils and Phenols: Thymol and Carvacrol, monoterpenoids; Caffeic acid and Rosmarinic acid.
